Against wind, waves, and every challenge, they sailed beyond limits.

Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Roopa Alagirisamy became the first Indian women to circumnavigate the globe in double-handed mode.

Starting on October 2, 2024, the duo sailed over 21,600 nautical miles (around 40,000 km) relying solely on wind, with no external assistance.

Neither came from a sailing background, yet their grit, skill, and teamwork turned this daring dream into reality.

Lt Cdr Dilna, hailing from Kerala, and Lt Cdr Roopa, from Pondicherry, not only mastered the seas but also inspired an entire nation with their perseverance.

Their Shaurya Chakra is a symbol of fearless ambition, determination, and India’s indomitable spirit.
